PalmSpringwithKids.com Reviews the Hyatt Grand Champions Indian Wells
Date of visit: October 2008
The Hyatt Grand Champions Resort is located at 44-600 Indian Wells Lane in Indian Wells. The entrance is off of Hwy 111 and is close to shopping, restaurants and entertainment including a brand new outdoor arena called the Indian Wells Tennis Center.
Self-parking is free, or included in the resort fee, but overnight valet parking is $25/day. We had no trouble finding parking in mid-October on a weekend. The resort has 530 rooms along with one and two bedroom villas. Our room, with two queen beds, was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom had a glass-door shower that was separate from the large bathtub and the bathroom looked recently remodeled. The balcony was a generous size and we overlooked the pool area from the 3rd floor (the hotel has 5 stories). Inside the room there was a huge, modern flat screen TV mounted to the wall and a big, empty refrigerator for personal use. These touches were much appreciated!
The pool area includes a 1-foot wading pool which is perfect for young kids because they can enjoy the water and be independent. There were several other small pools, a neat water fountain area for the kids to run through and play in and one pool had a water slide for kids over 48" tall. The pool area is beautifully landscaped and we saw several bunnies hopping around the grounds. Inside of the pool area is a casual restaurant and the bathrooms were close to all of the pools which was helpful. It was also wonderful to have an ice machine, cold water and cups right near the kids wading pool. It's like they thought of everything.
Just beyond the pool area is a gorgeous lake with koi fish and a few bridges to cross over. There is also a fun game area with croquet, bocce ball, horseshoes, badminton, table tennis and Foosball. Our kids had a lot of fun trying out all of the games. Another fun option is to rent bikes and cruise around the long pathways that encircle and bisect the grounds. Also along the lake near the pool area is a huge 24-hour gym with floor-ceiling windows. In the gym, many of the machines are connected to personal TVs and you can watch both local and cable channels. In addition to all of these activities you will also find a full spa, several tennis courts and of course golf courses as well.
As for restaurants, there are many options, including:
Lantana Restaurant, Pianissimo Lounge with Live Entertainment, The Oasis Pool Bar & Roadrunner Cafe and the Espresso Deli & Cafe with Internet Access.
For kids, the hotel has babysitting services as well as a program called Camp Hyatt. With half-day and full-day options, the kids, ages 3-12, are provided with meals and activities both in the Camp Hyatt rooms and around the facility.
The hotel is comfortable, quiet, relaxing and has lots of activities for kids. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to return.
